Senior Primary

Senior Primary

Our Senior Primary Department consists of four classes in Grade 4, Grade 5, Grade 6 and Grade 7.  The Senior Primary classes are situated in the North wing of the school, which overlooks the beautiful Main field and sport facilities.

The Senior Primary Academic programme falls under the auspices of Mr Thackwray (Deputy Principal), who co-ordinates a well-qualified and motivated staff team.  The pursuit of academic excellence receives priority, whilst a comprehensive curriculum package is further enhanced by specialist teachers in Computers, Afrikaans, P.E, Music and Media.

A fully equipped Science and Technology Laboratory creates the ideal environment in which to excel in these disciplines, whilst the Media Centre acts as the ‘Focal Point’ around which our academic programme revolves.  The introduction of Smart Board Technology in the Media, Computer Centre and all classrooms, plays a major role in further developing the Academic progress of our pupils.

A Comprehensive continuous assessment programme is supported by a compulsory homework period extending from Monday to Thursday (1:30 – 2:00pm).  This homework period provides a service to our parents / pupils, thus encouraging greater quality time between family members at the end of a day. The school has also introduced an “Elevate Study Skills Program” into the curriculum, which we have every confidence will assist our pupils in becoming life long learners.

An extensive Extra-Mural programme incorporates a multitude of sporting and cultural activities.  Specialist Coaches are employed to support the staff in providing a truly outstanding Extra-Mural programme.  A ‘Sport for All’ policy provides each pupil with the opportunity to participate and excel, whilst the comprehensive Cultural programme ensures that the Arts are at the forefront of the Education Process.

The Senior Primary Department thus provides an environment conducive to the attainment of overall academic excellence, high moral value standards, social and cultural awareness and good physical health.  Each pupil is offered the opportunity to develop leadership qualities, and furthermore, encouraged to act independently and confidently whilst at the same time showing respect and consideration for others.  This overall package will thus hopefully enable our pupils to pursue and enjoy, with energy and enthusiasm the numerous challenges that high school will present.
